Archaeology

We approach archaeology at FSU as part of a holistic four-field anthropological endeavor. Archaeologists on our faculty work in terrestrial, wetlands, and maritime settings in Florida and the southeastern US, Texas, Japan, Mesoamerica, the Caribbean, Eastern Europe and the Balkans, Egypt, the Black Sea, and Turkey. FSU graduate students actively participate in excavations and surveys in these and other parts of the world. We are committed to providing our students with a broad theoretical background as well as hands-on opportunities in the field. Our faculty has close ties to the FSU Department of Classics, the National High Field Magnetic Laboratory and other academic units as well as with the Southeast Archaeological Center (National Park Service) and the Florida Bureau of Archaeological Research. Our faculty collaborate with several individuals and institutions throughout the United States and the world.
