Rose Private School Students Participate in Mock Dig

On February 9, several FSU graduate students went to Rose Private School to educate the students about archaeology. The Rose School students explored archaeology in three ways: a powerpoint presentation, a mock excavation, and a lab activity. The powerpoint presentation gave them a chance to learn the basics and to see archaeologists working around the world. The mock excavation allowed students to gain some hands-on experience digging in a site set up by FSU students. In the lab, students counted and described the artifacts they found, and tried to identify them based on comparative materials.

This event was organized by the Archaeology Club (classics department). Archaeology Club president Deb Trusty asked if students from the Anthropology Club could lend their expertise, and several volunteered, including Alex Carr, Hanneke Hoekman-Sites, Maureen Mahoney, Michelle Markovics, and Tim Parsons.
