The North Carolina Maritime MuseumThe North Carolina Maritime Museum is a division of the North Carolina Department of Agriculture. Its mission is to preserve and interpret the maritime history of North Carolina through educational, boat building, and the collection of artifacts, specimens, and documents. |
The Vasa Museum, Stockholm, SwedenThe Vasa is possiblly the most famous 17th century shipwreck ever. In 1628 this Swedish royal warship and heeled over and sank on her maiden voyage in Stockholm harbor. She was discovered in 1956 and recovered in one of the earliest and most extensive u nderwater archaeological projects ever. Kalmar County Museum, Sweden This museum houses the main exhibet on the Kronan, the famed Swedish warship
(twice as big as the Vasa) that was sunk in battle off the coast of Oland in

Mary Rose Virtual MuseumThe Mary Rose was the favorite battleship of King Henry VIII. It was built in 1509 and sank while sailing off to engage the French in 1545. Its hull was raised in 1982 as the culmination of one of the most famous underwater archaeological projects ever. The Mary Rose Museum is located in Portsmouth, England, and this website give visitor and educational information as well as providing a virtual tour of the museum. |
The Florida Museum of Natural HistoryThe Florida Museum of Natural History is located in Gainesville, Florida and is associated with the University of Florida. They have one of the largest comparitive collections of faunal remains in the world. Their anthropology department focuses on archaeology of Florida and the Southeast. The Museum has sponsored the underwater excavations at the Aucilla River for over a decade. A new exhibet is the Hall of Fossils which displays artifacts and fossils from the Aucilla River. |
The Polish Maritime MuseumThe Polish Maritime Museum is located in Gdansk. It was founded in 1960 and is the largest museum in the country celebrating the Polish maritime tradition and the evolution of present day maritime technology, economy, and culture. The museum does have an underwater archaeology department, research vessel, and conservation laboratory, and features exhibets of artifacts such as those recovered from a 15th century shipwreck in Gdansk Bay. They also publish papers on maritime history, artifact catalogues, and other information. |
The Museum of History of Shipping, Schiffahrtsmuseum RostockThe Museum of the History of Shipping--or Schiffahrtsmuseum Rostock is located in Rostock, Germany. The exhibets, located in a 19th century house and merchant ship, feature the history of shipping and shipbuilding in the Baltic region. The museum also hosts the Department of Ship Archaeology, which conducts archaeology on shipwreck and maritime sites along the German Baltic coastal region. |

Western Australian Maritime MuseumThis museum is a branch of the Western Australian Museum and houses an internationally important collection of shipwreck relics as well as the largest museum collection of Australian boats (in Boat shed, Victoria Quay, Fremantle harbour). A major feature of the Museum is the reconstructed hull of the ship Batavia, lost en route from the Netherlands to the East Indies in 1629. Other exhibits include material recovered from Australia's oldest shipwreck and a display on Aborigines and the sea. |

Malacca's Maritime Archaeology Museum (MAM)Malacca's Maritime Archaeology Museum (MAM) is a non-profit organization of museum and professional museum personnel established to advance the interests of maritime archaeology and museum management.
